The Nerf RotoFury promises new action in the Elite MEGA series!

What do you need for a new MEGA blaster? A gigantic drum magazine, darts whistling through the air and a long range - Hasbro promises all of this with its new Nerf Gun N-Strike Elite MEGA RotoFury! It's just a guess. We assume that the name is composed of the two words "Rotation" and "Fury". "Rotation" then probably stands for the rotating drum magazine. “Fury” is English and means something like anger or rage. With the name and advertising messages, Hasbro is already making a lot of promises! We have put together for you whether this is true in our test report. Have fun while reading!

Design and ergonomics

Nerf RotoFury

As usual, Hasbro has done a great job with the Nerf N-Strike Elite MEGA RotoFury. When you hold the Nerf RotoFury, you really have the feeling of holding something solid in your hand. The piece of jewelery was designed in the core color red, which is common in the MEGA series, with accents in orange, black and white / gray. In addition, there are the fonts "MEGA", "Nerf" and "RotoFury", so that the blaster really cannot be confused and also looks very good optically. In short, the design is appealing and fits very well into the concept of the MEGA series. Perhaps worth mentioning: It is the second largest Nerf Gun in the N-Strike Elite MEGA series after the Centurion.

The size of the Nerf Rotofury is just as powerful as the other MEGA blasters such as the Nerf CycloneShock or the Nerf Magnus. With the MEGA series everything is a bit bigger than with other blasters. This is what makes this series so special. The RotoFury is equipped with a rotating drum magazine that can hold 10 MEGA darts. The drum magazine rotates as soon as the pump handle is pulled back and forth. But it can also be turned by hand if you want to reload the magazine with darts.

There are also three eyelets on the Nerf RotoFury if you want to hang the blaster on your backpack or on the wall, for example. This means that it can be transported practically when you are out and about, and it saves space in your familiar home, as it does not necessarily need a storage space, but can be hung on a free wall surface. The well-known Tactical Rail is also attached to the top of the blaster, on which the desired accessories can be placed. You can, for example, place a telescopic sight on it. You don't necessarily need that with a range of approx. 20 m, but it can spice up the blaster a bit and with a little modding you can make a Nerf Sniper pump gun from this blaster designed as a pump gun. There should be no limits to your imagination 😉

RotoFury

The Elite MEGA RotoFury is a typical two-hand blaster and thus gives its wearer two handles. The rear handle is comfortably large for older teenagers and adults, whereas it might be a little too big for smaller children - but the little ones should be able to hold it comfortably too. The front pump handle is the key instrument, because only by moving it back and forth does the drum magazine turn and place the darts in position free for the shot. The pump handle is slightly smaller compared to the rear handle and thus adapts to the hands of smaller Nerf fans. Otherwise, the RotoFury is weighted in the middle, which makes it comfortable to wear.

What is missing? What's not good? The rotating drum magazine is pretty cool. Unfortunately, it is stuck in the blaster and cannot be removed. This makes the loading process more difficult, as you have to manually turn the magazine a little to be able to insert all the darts. In addition, it is unfortunately not possible to attach a shoulder rest. Not even afterwards, unless you use the help of your toolbox. This is disadvantageous in that the Nerf RotoFury cannot be easily braced against the shoulder due to the lack of length and thus makes aiming a bit more difficult. One last point that struck us: if you pull back the pump handle, your hand will come a little too close to the drum magazine, which will bring your thumb against it if you are not careful. But this can happen in the heat of a nerf battle. A safety margin would have been very nice here.

Maybe a bit far-fetched, but the RotoFury comes quite close to the Nerf Rampage from the N-Strike Elite series in some respects. However, the Rampage has a larger magazine, but it also "only" shoots smaller darts, which also glide through the air without whistling.

Handling and performance of the RotoFury

The N-Strike Elite MEGA Rotofury gives all Nerf fans the choice: Either take a leisurely single shot at the opponent or use the slam fire function (rapid fire function) to pressurize them with a hail of red foam - depending on how the situation demands and you want it! To use the Slam Fire, all you have to do is hold the trigger and pull the pump handle back and forth. Above all, it is nice that this is also possible without batteries.

The MEGA darts can be easily inserted into the drum magazine - as already mentioned, you have to turn the drum a little manually in order to be able to really place all the darts. When turning, there is always a small click. But don't worry, nothing is broken. It is so intentional. At least that's what we think.

The RotoFury is advertised with ranges of 23 meters and more. So let's get to the facts, because that's what really matters to blasters (even if they have N-Strike Elite MEGA in their name). After a bit of shooting in, the RotoFury reached approx. 14 meters with the blaster held straight and almost 22 meters with an angled shot. So we have come quite close to the advertising message of 23 meters. In slam fire mode we were able to empty the magazine in a pretty good 3 seconds - this means that - depending on how fast you can move the pump handle - it is possible to shoot approx. 3 darts within one second. In a nerf battle this can cause tremendous tension in your opponents, which is only increased by the whistling MEGA Whistler darts. In terms of speed, we reached a maximum of 80 km / h. Your opponents should be able to run away first 😉

Our conclusion on the MEGA RotoFury

Our previous favorite of the N-Strike Elite MEGA series, the Nerf Gun CycloneShock, has had good competition with the Rotofury. So we now have two favorites of this series, both of which are tremendous fun and will definitely be a strengthening for every Nerf battle. Due to the high speed at which the MEGA darts are catapulted out of the blaster, you can also enjoy the breathtaking whistle when the darts fly through the air. The howling of the Whistler darts reminded us of the Star Wars films and we are sure: If more such devices are used in Nerf battles, the corresponding feeling will arise 😀

The higher price of the RotoFury compared to the CyclonShock should not deter you from buying, because the two Nerf Guns are fundamentally different. The CycloneShock is a one-handed blaster, whereas the Nerf RotoFury is a two-handed blaster. Thus, they complement each other well and can support you differently in Nerf Battles in their own special way! In any case, we wish you a lot of fun with it!
