About a year and a half ago I visited a photo exhibition in Jena city church St. Michael. It consisted of portraits of (over-) centenarians with short quotations from them on various aspects of life. I was thrilled and deeply touched by these little simple pieces of wisdom that can have such an enormous impact on a person's attitude to life and their own fate. When I came across the book by Kerstin Schweighöfer a few weeks ago, there was no question for me whether I would like to read “100 Years of Life”. The question was: when will it happen! The cover picture alone conveys the feelings and mood that prevail in the book. The centenarians take their own lives with ease, despite all the challenges and disasters they have faced. There is joy in every new day they can live and the wisdom that shines from their eyes and is expressed in simple words in the book. With words that touch you, make you think, encourage, give strength and make you believe in the goodness of life. The author presents 10 stories of centenarians from Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, England, France. About people who survived the two world wars and who had endured many personal battles and losses. None of them got out of it broken. Otherwise they would probably not live for a long time. But they are there and tell us through their stories what really matters in life. What it means to be free and to be able to decide for yourself what love, passion, friends and children mean. How a relationship works and what can ruin it. The author has summarized and discussed the most important conclusions at the end of the book. The life stories of the 10 heroes to whom the book is dedicated are very different. What is interesting, however, is that most of them say the same words. For example, that humans do not come to earth to be happy and that one has no right to happiness either. Life decides who can be happy. Happiness is not a permanent condition. There are many more wisdoms that come through the book. Every reader has to discover it for himself Work out 10 short lessons in the subject "The Art of Living" and be inspired
