Are heart rate and lifespan linked

The Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR combines convenient optical heart rate measurement and a robust design

Simultaneously with the introduction of the watch, the Spartan range was expanded to include interval training and altitude navigation in a software update

Suunto announced today that its new Spartan Sport Wrist HR sports watch will be available in stores from March 30, 2017. The latest member of the Suunto Spartan collection combines the robust, stylish design typical of Suunto and extensive sports functions with the convenient heart rate measurement on the wrist from Valencell. Valencell is an American company and a leading innovator in portable biometric data sensing.

Suunto will release a software update for its entire Spartan range of products coinciding with the launch date of the Spartan Sport Wrist HR, which will include support for interval training and altitude profile navigation.

The last Spartan software updates included improvements in GPS tracking accuracy, additional altitude and air pressure trend displays (Spartan Ultra), POIs in navigation and the ability to view summaries of activities over 30 days.

Accuracy and convenient optical heart rate measurement around the clock.

Suunto's optical heart rate measurement is very convenient for recording daily activities as well as for sporting activities. On the one hand, the Spartan Sport Wrist HR is used to record activities, including monitoring the heart rate (even when at rest), steps and calorie consumption around the clock. Athletes can use this data to find out more about their recovery status and include them in decisions about their diet. On the other hand, it is the ideal training companion with extensive data, detailed graphics, sport-specific displays and an integrated power meter.

The new Spartan Sport Wrist HR is equipped with PerformTek, Valencell's patented biometric measurement technology. According to Valencell's internal test series, the accuracy of the data provided by the Spartan Sport Wrist HR is market-leading. Only 5 percent deviation from the chest strap 89 percent of the time.

If the watch has to be worn over clothing in demanding conditions such as swimming or outdoor sports, it can be connected to an HF chest strap, such as the Suunto Smart Sensor, to record the heart rate via Bluetooth Smart.

Durability and sports competence

The Spartan Sport Wrist HR is equipped with a robust housing, mineral crystal glass and a stainless steel frame. It is made by hand in Finland. The watch's colored touchscreen can withstand heavy use, has a wide viewing angle and its high-contrast display is easy to see even in bright sunlight. In addition to the fact that all Spartan watches have 80 sport-specific activity modes, all screens of their sport modes can also be individually personalized. The Spartan Sport Wrist HR records the training via GPS / GLONASS tracking, FusedSpeed ™ and an integrated accelerometer and provides a wide range of information about the athlete's progress, both on the watch and via the Suunto Movescount service.

The recommended retail price for the Spartan Sport Wrist HR is € 499. It is available in three colors: jet black, blue and sakura. Find out more about the Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR at
