The book of Exodus, chapter 3

Ex 3.1Moses grazed the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jitro, the priest of Midian. One day he drove the cattle out across the steppe and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.Ex 3.2There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame that struck up from a thorn bush. He looked: The thorn bush was burning and yet not burning.Ex 3.3Moses said, I want to go there and see the extraordinary appearance. Why doesn't the thorn bush burn?Ex 3.4When the Lord saw Moses coming closer to look at it, God called out to him from the thorn bush: Moses, Moses! He replied: Here I am.Ex 3.5The Lord said: Don't come any closer! Take off your shoes; because the place where you stand is holy ground.Ex 3.6Then he went on: I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses covered his face; for he was afraid to look at God.Ex 3.7The Lord said, I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt, and I have heard their loud complaint against their drivers. I know their suffering.Ex 3.8I came down to snatch them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a beautiful, wide land, into a land where milk and honey flow, into the region of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites .Ex 3.9Now the loud complaint of the Israelites has reached me and I have also seen the Egyptians suppress it.Ex 3.10And now go! I am sending you to the pharaoh. Bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt!Ex 3.11Moses answered God, Who am I, that I could go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?Ex 3.12But God said: I am with you; I have sent you and you shall serve as a sign: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.Ex 3.13Then Moses said to God, `` Well, I will come to the Israelites and tell them, 'The God of your fathers sent me to you. They'll ask me: what's his name? What should I say to them?Ex 3.14Then God answered Moses: I am the "I-am-there". And he went on: This is how you should say to the Israelites: The "I-am-there" has sent me to you.Ex 3.15Then God said to Moses, Say to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever and that is how I will be called in all generations.Ex 3.16Go, gather the elders of Israel and tell them: The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, appeared to me and said to me, I have been careful of you and have seen what is being done to you in Egypt.Ex 3.17I have therefore decided to bring you out of the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivite and Jebusites, a land where milk and honey flowEx 3.18If they listen to you, go with the elders of Israel to the king of Egypt; says to him: Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has met us. And now we want to go three days' march into the desert and offer sacrifices to Yahweh our God.Ex 3.19I know that the King of Egypt will not let you go unless he is forced to do so by a strong hand.Ex 3.20Only when I reach out my hand and strike Egypt down with all my miracles that I perform in its midst, will he let you go.Ex 3.21Then I will vote the Egyptians in favor of this people, and if you move away you will not go empty-handed.Ex 3.22Every woman can ask her neighbor or housemate to wear silver and gold implements and clothes. Hand them over to your sons and daughters and plunder the Egyptians!
