Are running shoes actually needed to run?

Running analysis

With measure to the goal

One thing is already certain: you too will find the ideal running shoe for you! Because if you know what to look out for, you can actually no longer "get lost". The magic remedy is called: running analysis!

When it comes to finding the running shoe for you that fits you like a glove, you can confidently say: All roads lead to your goal - but you have to walk one of them in any case. And: You shouldn't be guided by optics under any circumstances. "The perfect running shoe is perhaps the only shoe you buy even though you don't necessarily like it," emphasizes Peter Rödhamer. Because: This device is simply about the inner values! The specialist is Category Manager Running at INTERSPORT and has been dealing with the various methods of giving every foot the right running shoe for many years. “There are several options for finding out what is appropriate,” he says. The following three approaches work particularly well, as Peter Rödhamer knows. The most modern, however, is definitely the high-tech method!

OLD SCHOOL METHOD

Simply bring the old running shoe with you to the INTERSPORT branch. Using the process profile, trained salespeople can identify which shoe fits better or at least as well.

THE EAGLE EYE METHOD

It is best to stand shoulder-width apart without socks and bend your knees a little. In this way you can see how the foot is being stressed and what kind of cushioning - for example with or without support - is required. Then take a few more steps and trained eyes will know what it takes to find the right shoe.

THE HIGH-TECH METHOD

Of course, there are now very precise technical aids to help people get on the jumps when it comes to running shoes: Special treadmills can determine the load to the centimeter. 2D or 3D cameras can precisely analyze the running behavior. Peter Rödhamer: "That helps, of course, but trained experts achieve equally good results with their specialist knowledge!"

Running professionals prove: Even in sports that mainly involve the feet, rules of thumb are very popular. One of them is: If you do while running can no longer speak you are clear traveling too fast. Another says: Don't compare yourself to other runners that only unsettles you. And when it comes to the be-all and end-all of running - footwear - you often hear: A running shoe that costs less than 100 euros is not a running shoe.

In fact, running has one really big advantage: All you need is the right shoes and a sportswear and you're good to go. But when it comes to choosing the right tires, too often there is too much ignorance, says Peter Rödhamer. He is responsible for running at INTERSPORT and knows why footwear is more than just foot protection: "The wrong running shoe can quickly spoil the joy of running!" After all, the right shoe means that you “get into a flow when jogging”, as Rödhamer puts it - so that you no longer have to think about running or even about your shoe while running.

With the wrong piece of sports equipment, however, you don't just get “lost in the flow” - with this very simple sport, in an emergency, pain in your knees, hips or back can very quickly be threatened. "This also increases the risk of injury in the future," warns Rödhamer.

1. The cushioning
The sole with the cushioning is the part that connects the foot to the ground. It's only logical that this area is the heart of the running shoe. It is important that the cushioning is not just present on the heel, but extends into the forefoot area. You can usually tell whether a shoe is supported in the middle or not by the color gradation under the middle inner foot. In addition, higher body weight also requires higher cushioning! Important: If you don't need a support, you can't walk with anyone!
