How can I be placed in Goa

North Goa

Goa is located in western India and is known for its many beaches. Lots of hippies have settled here. A lot of yoga is practiced when walking on the beach.

Goa is said to be the perfect start for a trip to India. The capital is called Panaji. The region was a Portuguese colony for around 450 years, which is reflected in the high Catholic population. You can see a lot of Portuguese houses. Our driver explains to us that you used to get land if you switched to Catholicism. In the other states of India there are mainly Hindus.

Eat:
I would only go out to eat in India if I checked the reviews on Google, TripAdvisor or something similar beforehand. There are a lot of good restaurants, cheap and very tasty.

Accommodation:
Better to book on site. Is much cheaper. If that is too unsure for you, you can book a night and then extend it on site. We usually first sleep one night in the accommodation and if it's good we extend it. We have had very good experiences with this.

Means of transport:
Scooters cost 3-4 euros a day. Hardly anyone here wears a helmet. However, the driver must wear a helmet. Otherwise it costs 1.25 euros the first time you catch it, the second time it costs 12.50 euros ... And always have your international driver's license with you. ☺️

Trains run cheaply through most parts of India. There are also night trains. Clearly not as comfortable as Deutsche Bahn, but you are in India too. πŸ˜„

Rental car:
Better not. Better to hire a taxi driver if you want to go by car. He also likes to drive you around all day if the money is right. For 20-30 euros you can easily go anywhere all day. It is best to have a driver who speaks English. Is more interesting when you can chat and learn more about India and the people here.

Tuk Tuks are also a bit cheaper than taxis everywhere. These are little auto rickshaws.

There is an app IndiaGoes, where you can drive cheaper.

Road traffic:
No comment. Better not drive yourself in the city. πŸ˜„

Cellular:
Sim cards on site are very cheap. Geo and Vodafone are quite good choices. Pay seven euros for up to three months with Vodafone. Free calls within India and 1.5 GB available every day. πŸ‘ However, you need a large vodafone shop and don't forget: passport and printed visa! You also need an Indian contact who will vouch for you, so to speak (who will also be called), an address for the accommodation where you live and then a photo will be taken of you. πŸ˜„ The card will be activated after a few hours. Can also take a day. Welcome to India. πŸ˜„

WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS:
If there is electricity, there is also WiFi. There is free WiFi in the restaurants.

Inch:
Tourists are allowed to import 200 cigarettes, 0.95 liters of alcohol and US $ 5,000. But honestly, it's so cheap here that you don't need to introduce anything. A 0.7 liter beer in the bar costs 1.50 euros.

Electricity:
Can always be gone. Whether while shopping, in the restaurant or in the accommodation. But there are candles. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜„ 220-240 volt power supply there are sockets of type C, D and M, mostly the German plug fits into the socket.

Best travel time:
October to March

Security:
One must not forget that one is in a poor country, although this is not as severe in Goa as in the rest of the country. So pay more attention to things and of course, not just walking through the streets draped in jewelry.

Insects:
Unfortunately there is pretty much everything nasty that mosquitoes can transmit, so always spray. Just at dusk.

Language:
Hindi, English and each of the 29 Indian states still has its own language. So Indians often grow up trilingual.

Miscellaneous:
The people are very friendly and helpful.

Useful tips:
Tap water is not potable in India. Our couch surfers from India don't even drink this. However, there is often filtered water in accommodations where you can refill your bottle. We always have our own bottles from Germany with us, which we can fill up anywhere and so far we have only had good experiences.

Always trade, trade, trade ... For example, if the dealer says 600 you should say 60 and then meet somewhere in the middle. A little tip from our couch surfers. πŸ˜„ Even Indians have to act here, only the starting price is then lower. πŸ˜‰

And girls shop. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ Yeah, here is a little hippie-hopping paradise if you like that. πŸ˜„Read more
