Why doesn't my Steam client open?

Steam does not start: so you can continue to gamble

If Steam does not start, there are several possible reasons for this. First of all, it is important to rule out that the Steam servers are down and a login is impossible.

How to find out:

  • If the Steam server is down, for example for maintenance work, operator Valve announces this in the in-house forum. Here you get to the overview.
  • You can find out whether there is an unscheduled downtime on this website. At the top left you can see how many people are online and whether the store, community and web API are working normally.

If Steam isn't down, then the cause is probably yours. First, check your internet connection:

  1. Open your browser and surf a website to see if you are connected.
  2. If this is not the case, reset your network connection or restart your router.

Maybe Steam will too by aFirewall or virus scanner blocked. To test this, deactivate the security programs for testing purposes and restart Steam.

If it works, add an exception for Steam in the virus program or the firewall. You can find out how to do this in the manual for your firewall or antivirus program.
